SparkArrestTM

The Wizard 900E readout has been specifically tailored for EDM machines. For this particular purpose it has been enhanced with several features that are especially useful for the EDM application. Such features are the "3 Z-axis mode" that turns the display into one showing the depths of particular interest during the spark cycle, and "Spark out" that provides the means to create a perfect finish at the end of the cycle. But maybe it is ANILAM's new SparkArrestTM feature that makes this console really a stand out in the industry.

SparkArrestTM is a safety feature. Occasionally there is a build up of eroded material on the electrode. If build up is allowed to go on for some time, the electrode can actually move away from the workpiece during a cycle, instead of working its way into it. If the electrode starts moving out it may even end up moving out of the electrolyte. When this happens, the risk for fire is imminent. SparkArrestTM will block the sparking if there is a risk that the electrode is moving out of the electrolyte.

The SparkArrestTM feature is easily set up. The zero position is defined as the point where the electrode reaches the workpiece, when the first spark appears. The electrolyte level is at a certain height over this point. The operator can then input a limiting level between the zero position and the electrolyte level, the so called SparkArrestTM level. Sparking will stop as the electrode reaches the SparkArrestTM level.
