3-D Touch Probes for Workpiece Setup and Measurement

TS 220, TS 230 and TS 632

The TS is a 3-D touch trigger probe for workpiece setup, measurement and identification, as well as for the digitizing of workpieces in the working space of a machine tool. The trigger signal is formed through a highly reliable, wear-free optical sensor.

Workpiece Setup

The 3-D touch probes from HEIDENHAIN save time otherwise spent aligning workpieces parallel with the machine axes. Under either manual or program control, the TS 3-D Touch Probe simply contacts two points on a plane side. If the NC control provides the corresponding function, it can electronically compensate the measured misalignment. Other NC functions make it possible to define corners or circle centers as datum.

Workpiece Measurement and Identification

A TS 3-D Touch Probe can be used to measure workpieces under program control, even between individual machining cycles — for example to compensate tool wear. The NC control can transmit the results of measurement through the data interface or use it for in-process control. A 3-D touch probe can also contact salient points on a workpiece to identify it before machining.

Workpiece Digitizing

Provided that they offer the required cycles, NC controlled machine tools can use TS 3-D Touch Probes to digitized workpiece models. The TNC controls from HEIDENHAIN, for example, can convert the positions thus measured into an NC part program.

TS 220 with cable transmission: for use with HEIDENHAIN contouring controls of the TNC 400 series.

TS 230 with cable transmission: for NC controls with 15-V touch probe input.

TS 632 with infrared transmission: for both TNC controls and NC controls with 15-V touch probe input.
